General Development, or GenDev, is one of the largest mega-corporations in the Array. While they don’t have flashy products, don’t build starships or have the most advanced technology, they do have areas in which they excel.
GenDev operates mines throughout most unaligned regions in the Array. Thus, if you find a mining outpost in unaligned space, there is a good chance it’s staffed and operated by GenDev.
The corporation also fabricates ubiquitous parts and tools, always objects with no moving parts.
A less well-known asset of GenDev is their deliberately intricate and opaque accounting procedures and policies. Though they are based in the Compact, they have spent a thousand years learning how to obfuscate oversight and inspection; it’s very hard to find out what they are doing. While on the public side they try to paint a benevolent picture of the corporation, away from public view they organize dangerous weapons tests and operate secret private prisons, often on behalf of Compact signatories who want to avoid bad press.
GenDev also manufactures safe toys and recreational equipment, especially gear and balls for Grav Ball and other large-scale sporting events. Their trade is fabrication and materials, not machinery. They have proprietary armor options for ship construction. GenDev also ships massive quantities of various materials from extraction point to manufacturer. This is their real profit source.
